International friendship week 2007 (4/9 ~ 4/12)

The ninth of April 2007 marks the beginning of foreigner student week. However, I would like to call it international friendship week. The highlighted event that had been brought forth by we foreign students were the various foreign delights which originated from where we came from. Who can ever say no to food?
We have with us students from many parts of Asia such as Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Philippines, Macau and Singapore. And even from across the Pacific Ocean such as Canada and United States of America. This interesting warp of students establishes quite a mini-international gathering here in the concise rolling oasis of Chang Gung University. Most of us chose a special type of food, which best represents the place we came from, to share with our dear Taiwan friends in Chang Gung University.
Malaysians chose to sell the popular fried cheese roll and the crunchy prawn biscuits. Canadians made the water-mouthing French toast which was really saturated with fresh milk. Americans meticulously prepared triangular sandwich with special jam spread in between. There were many other exciting delights sold, however, now that foreign student week is over, it makes no sense listing all the food out here one by one on paper. Paper cannot be eaten, words cannot be tasted. It will only make those people who missed out feel worse. However, do not despair, there is always next year. We’ll be back with more food prepared for you!
The main purpose of this event is to reinforce the idea of cultural exchange. Living in the fast-spinning world with exploding knowledge and ever-changing information, no one should ever be content with the limited improvements and achievements they can attain within the capsule of ones country. It is important to gain international grounds in order to grasp a wider and more complete scope of whatever one’s chosen field of interest may be. This is the only way to remain in the cutting edge in this era of extensive globalisation. It cannot be stressed any bit more that establishing international bonds and making friends overseas are important. International friendship week provided a light-hearted stage where we foreign students presented ourselves in front of the whole school through a fun-filled manner – food! However, the profound issue which lies behind stayed dormant, waiting to be explored.
Before this piece of article gets too preachy, I would like to thank the school for allowing us to hold such a meaningful event. Most importantly, I would like to send out my most sincere gratitude to you students who kindly supported the event by generously purchasing the food and bravely trying them out. Have I mentioned that I forgot to wash my hands before preparing the food? =P
